Pride & Police 1 Year, 11 Months ago
So what if the Police in NI risk "politicising" their role by attending Pride marches in uniform?

Millions will bore on about how this is good and cops should be catching thieves rather than prancing about on parade etc; as if everything in life is a zero sum argument.

It isn't. Let them march with truncheon swinging and hand-cuffs a-jingling I say...

Northern Ireland is, by far, the most divided part of the UK - by some considerable distance. Protestant/Catholic; Gay/Straight; Militant/ Pacifist; Republican/Unionist. And more - IRA/UDF, for example.

With numerous combinations of each of those mentioned. Even the PSNI is divided into these categories - so it's best to let those, on the ground, in NI to decide strategy.

Oh, don't remind me Jean. I am Irish born and bred, I also grew up during the Troubles. I immigrated to the States in the 80s to get away from it all as a teen.

There were not any winners.

Why would anyone want to disturb a hornets nest, they are best left alone?

I can imagine the headlines

"Surrey millionaire, starts a war with Northern Ireland over nothing"
