Another retailer in trouble. If they had a decent book selection not full cheaply published books about serial killers, Beatles and the occult. They might have a future!

I did ask for a book to be ordered in a few years ago, which was on their website.

They told me we can't do that, you have to order online. Which is a factor now, I hate ordering online

Ordering online, credit cards, oyster cards, smartphones/TVs must be embraced - because they've made our lives so much easier.

Casualties of progress include the absence of milkmen, bus conductors, waiters - and the need to see the bank manager/doctor.

Maybe for lazy morons like you Barney.

Ordering online is a nightmare for clothes, fishing/hunting/firearm equipment, I like to look and hold fishing gear I don't like lightweight poles. Different outlets do different sizes, my evening shirts vary from L to XXL depending where I bought them from and cut. Will Royal Mail deliver live rounds?

Who sees bus conductors these days? Then again I don't live in an inner city ghetto.

I live perfectly happy with a standard flat screen with a USB port and Blu Ray, my film collection is small, even in the VHS era I used to rent rather than buy.

Fair enough. But with smart technology, you could watch virtually any movie/program ever made. With streaming/library sites, Prime, Netflix, Disney etc. You sound like one of those who flatly refused to get a colour TV for years!

It's not Barney this time GM; we have several fake users - God knows why but if it amuses them, I'm happy for them to put up the odd post if they are not malicious or dangerously misguided. The majority, like Spam, get automatically deleted by the filter.

Life is too short for TV and I haven't got the patience to sit through films either, I love to be outdoors.

It could be Barney using a VPN?

I have to say it is a great impression of Barney if it isn't. Same sentence and favoured emjoi.

The mystery deepens...

Technology also helps me in my work - in an accountancy related job. Instead of dictating to a secretary, I now type and email my correspondence (via my laptop - which can be anywhere I want) and send it via email. No stamps, mail, corrections - and the speedy responses are appreciated. Enjoy outdoor life/sport for leisure; ignore them for making a living - which will get harder and harder.

I need tech for my job also for emails, spreadsheets, charts and invoices. I still use XP.

I have no idea why the demise of the high street has to do with emails? Emails have been the norm for nearly 30 years.

Have you considered that the person who you are sure is not Barney, might well be Barney?
Anyone can lose their mind, after all.

not so sure it's made our lives easier and retail shopping used to be fun.
Certainly more choice but do we need so much choice?

Very reluctant to give credit card details online and for us oldies (who look years younger ) mobile phones can become hell.

As a heterosexual Hedda I have always loathed retail shopping...

I love it now online, sorry GM.

I order clothes to be delivered to the store, and pop in to collect or return on my way to and from work.

Never a queue. Simple. Return the high streets to grass, I say.

Each to their own, I love to try on before buying. No worrying and waiting for refunds which takes days.

I love to sample fishing gear and look at hunting equipment. Before departing hard earned money.
