Why? What is the reason?
If it's just to give friends and relatives of victims the pleasure of witnessing pain and agony - fair enough. Many think that's a good thing and I can understand that. It's like fans of capital punishment - many go for the Eye-for-an-eye approach and believe it deters crime. Fine. I don't agree but at least it's honest. People who believe the worst thing is to kill someone are advocates for killing someone. Makes no sense to me but at least it is honest.
So those (including government - and all opposition) thoroughly agree that convicts should be dragged into court - by force if necessary - to suffer in public.
Why? Politicians clearly see a majority of the public wanting it and need votes. Media sees a great story (in fact - ongoing great stories "Letby sobs in dock"... "Devastated parents weep as Letby told she's going to prison"... "Judge looks judicial as he dons the modern equivalent of the hanging hat"...
But seriously, WHY?
Instead of freeing IPP prisoners and Joint Enterprise victims, wasting time on this?

You see I think, over the years, the system has actually been a perpetrator in committing crimes. Malkinson, with the polce deliberately hiding evidence and "losing" DNA, was sent to prison by the acts of a rapist AND by police officers (and the CPS). By DELIBERATELY (I think) hiding vital evidence that my false accusers in 2001 were liars, Surrey Police colluded with Max Clifford to send an innocent man (me) to prison for 7 years (cut to about 3 when prison and parole honest people saw the crooked prosecution). By DELIBERATELY (I think) avoiding investigating properly, the CCRC is colluding in the crime of Perverting the Course of Justice by rejecting dozens of applications which (like Malkinson and me) should have seen convictions reversed.

I don't mind for myself. Yes - it removed 50 million from my bank accounts but what do you do with 50 million quids? And what a bore, running a global music corporation. It's the others that worry me. The hundreds of poor innocents and their families. The thousands of False Accusers and their poor innocent victims. The millions of supporters of criminals who lie for cash, because they believe in the rights (often of females) abused by the liars. Miss King has her armour on. She is fuming. She is breathing fire. She will conquer all - for the innocent victims of lies.

End of sermon. Please donate to the Church Spire fund.

The last desparate attention seeking act of a Gov on its last legs. Pathetic, and will die a death in reality as it is totally impractical.

But not the notion that the victim (families in murder cases) must be the centre of the Criminal Justice System. That will lead to the return of the death penalty. How could it not? Makes perfect sense under that doctrine, and very practical, if messy.

Victims at the centre means retribution at the centre. Not rehabilitation.

I make no comment on the rights and wrongs of this here. But it is time now for an honest debate and long term consideration of where all this is taking us.
