XL Bully dogs 1 Year, 9 Months ago

Should they be banned? of course they should. They can kill children, permanently maim adults and are absolutely mental, along with their moronic owners. These dogs are only owned for machismo reasons and their is no reason for them.

Yes they should be banned and should have been a long time ago. There has been a huge increase in dog attacks and it is all this breed. One simple instance where our useless Government can easily do its primary job and protect its citizens easily, and it fails.

No - not all this breed!

In the UK, most fatal dog attacks are from two breeds - about three quarters.

Pit Bulls (66%) and Rottveillers (10%).

Pit bulls are banned in Britain, Barney.

Barney I wrote that the Xl bully dog was responsible for the sharp increase in dog attacks.

You have addressed an entirely different question; how accurately I have no idea.

Do take a little more care when reading, especially when reading me...

Having considered, I think Barney MIGHT be pointing out that despite the ban on pitbulls and the others, they are still responsible for many deaths because people ignore the ban and police don't enforce it until it is too late.

I concede to your decoding skills Honey and to be fair he was not necessarily responding to me anyway...

Ban one breed, breeders will create another breed of big dogs. I hate it when people say "Eee's alright" I respond "But are my dogs though?"

I only let my dogs out without a harness on my land or my friends field. I obtained from pups from a bloke at the boozer. They are massive but docile, however dogs can change like people. They could cause a lot of damage if they bit though.

I have told people if they bit someone or hurt a child. I have no issue doing the Old Yella ending on them.

There is no excuses to defend to a dog that is out of control.

We can't ban people can we?

Then ban them. It really is simple: create a list of dogs that are NOT banned. Anything else, and in between is banned. Remove the market for status "terror dogs". No one has the "right" to "own" an animal that is a palpable danger to the life of others. I love dogs, by the way.

It will only happen if an MP gets bitten by a Bully dog.

I'm not a fan of banning or blaming the weapon. I think the law to prevent owning or training or allowing any dog to become lethal needs to be tightened and arrests and prosecutions increased - it's like knife crime. Don't ban knives or even a specific type of knife - stop those who carry them with malicious intent or use them (and NOT, incidentally, those who happen to be with a user).

The trouble is if a breed is lethal by nature - then "training" or "allowing" a dog to become so is beside the point. I'm not a fan in general of banning either, but hearing what experts say about this breed I am.

And the drug dealers will remain free to have a dog, a beagle perhaps...

Not new - Dickens told us about Bullseye, Bill Sikes' bull-terrier, who wasn't a nice chap. Inbred and nasty.

Farm animals have vets; illegal dogs don't, and as in Victorian times, remain virtually outside the law.

Police aren't trained - ignoring the animal. Just another failure - specific new legislation needed!

Nowadays, it's only those who've been attacked make the call for help. Just another 'eye-off-the-ball' example.

You know they are great hunting dogs and they will be cross-bred with another fighting dog.

Two examples of our inadequate dog legislation.

Only 4 dangerous dog breeds are banned from the UK.

And no dog is required to be muzzled.

Possibly or even probably GM.

But this cross breed will remain illegal until certified a reasonably safe domestic pet to own. (In my proposed change anyway). We don't let people develop and sell dangerous cars. Neither dogs or other animals.

We regulate bred breeds of dogs as we regulate species: people are not permitted to own pumas.

And we work to the assumption that breeds of dog will be permitted unless there is very strong evidence of their danger. 99% of breeds will be fine.

Absolutely agree bad back. I am lucky enough to live in an area where I never really see these xl dogs, but other communities are filling with them, and action is required.

A good idea, but as there's over 360 recognised dog breeds, implementation may prove difficult.

More breed bans are required though. In Europe, some countries ban over a dozen - like Denmark and Italy.

In the USA, the matter is taken much more seriously with stringent controls, and about two dozen breeds banned.

Tell your MP what you told us Wyot.

Police could be trained all they need is a firearm.

I hate these types of dog owners. MOST dogs will never attack their owner's but strangers or another dog they don't like is a different story.

Any dog is unpredictable and can have off days. If a dog is attacked just once it can change their personality and attitude for their lifetime.

My dogs are soft and cuddly towards me and my partner but they could change especially when age sets in.

One of the family dogs we had when I was a kid had dementia. It was put down by my mother when it attacked her in the kitchen just out the blue.

I hate it also when they say their dog is OK, however are my dogs OK with your pooch?
