TOPIC: Jimmy Savile - The Reckoning

Jimmy Savile - The Reckoning 1 Year, 9 Months ago
I have no problem with The Reckoning as long as it projects all aspects of this rather complex character and does not side with either one unproven area nor with the other.

In that case you're going to have lots of problems with it. It will be a one-dimensional series, focusing on reported sexual abuse portrayed as fact. We know he raised millions for charity by running marathons etc, we know that he presented totp for 20 years and Jim'll fix-it for 20 years. Only Karen Ward and Jimmy Saville know if he abused her at the boarding school or whether anything like that went on at stoke manderville. Will it mention Karen Ward's fake letter from Surrey Police with a badge several years out of date, highly unlikely. It is make by ITV studios, so I don't know why it is been shown on the bbc. I shall give it a wide berth.

It will be edited again no doubt or reshot before it airs.

No one really knows the extent he really did. Savile had a dark sense of humour then again if you go to any pub you hear worse.

A couple of years ago, I spoke to 2 ex nurses in a pub. They worked with Savile closely at Stoke Mandeville.

They told me and my partner he loved to prolong hugs and rub back s. They were never groped by him or cornered. He wasn't well liked, then again most people are not.

The nurses did say if anything did happen in the hospital, they never saw him do it.

I also know a friend of a friend who worked at Stoke Mandeville, who described him as a bit handsy or touchy-feely, which was not uncommon, particularly amongst outgoing tactile people, however nothing illegal. I didn't particularly like him or dislike him, I liked his shows "fix-it" and totp and respected him for being different and seemingly much older than other presenters of such shows.

From the Raccoon archive 'reckoning'.

“Savile the Beast – the inside story of the greatest scandal in TV history”. Seven words jumped out near the start of the second chapter of this book. ‘But the truth had to emerge eventually’ – fifteen chapters later the truth had still not put in an appearance.

I’m glad I did not buy this when it first appeared for sale in April this year. Then it was £7.99 – I saved £7.10 with my kindle version. Had I waited another 24 hours I could have saved another 13 pence, perhaps if you wait a few weeks longer the publisher will pay you to read it.

There is NOT one scrap of evidence there was any abuse at any time. If there was I'd have found it.

Formal complaints have been issued to both the BBC and ITV.

Yes - if any claimant who said she was his daughter or son had been found to carry his DNA, there would have been a vast payout (before lawyers got all the money pledged to Leeds Hospital for saving children's lives). But there was none.

For those who thought Savile was the start - think again. JK in 2000 was way before - read this (Russell Brand link).

Clearly this will be a fair show - Steve Coogan (who I like) says it has been done with the full co-operation of the survivors. Nobody with a brain cell could think that means not only surviving victims and surviving false accusers but surviving relatives, friends, supporters and friends of Savile - including the hundreds of grateful Stoke Mandeville survivors and those who might have benefitted from his charity work (like the millions left to Leeds Hospital in his will - as well as the lawyers who have benefitted from grabbing that cash instead of the hospital).

There is indeed a great show to be made about this - as long as it covers ALL aspects, from claims to truth.

If only the media would give you an interview to put your side of the story, or perhaps there'd be another way to do so (book?). But perhaps you can't if you're prevented from speaking freely for legal reasons.

That is interesting Robbie, was your acquaintance at Stoke Mandeville before Savile worked there? His fund raising did bring the place up to date; and bought much needed instruments and equipment.

I did the Netflix documentary about Savile, however it showed no evidence and Ian Hislop threw in his 2 cents.

The man has been sued numerous times, so if knew something he could of said something or is another celeb who was scared to come forward, so more abuse happened?

How many useless celebrities are there that are not pussies? I saw a band in 2013 or so, they ranted about Savile, they said they knew and thought he was odd. (usual comments)

But again did nothing.

I just watched the Brand documentary, it was a waste time. I kept asking myself how comes they didn't go the police or go to police during Operation Yewtree/Ore?

Even though Russell Brand worked for a production company he made a lot money for Channel 4 for garbage programmes.

He seemed to liked groupies and groupies liked him.

similar to Rolf Harris who held my arm when I met him once. As a non tactile person I recognise others the opposite and know it's my problem not theirs.

I have no interest in any of it. I never had an interest in Saville or Brand in terms of their alleged "talent" or the allegations against them.

If wrong doing has occurred this is a matter for the criminal justice system, not social media by either lynching or defending these infividuals. I do think there is an inconsistency in those defending using anecdote when those who condemn also use it.

I also disagree that allegations are not evidence. They may be weak, malicious or truthful so far as someone recalls, but they are evidence, which is not confined to the stronger evidence of DNA or CCTV.

What I hate is the immediate public and professional destruction of people just through allegation and other untested evidence.

Only a sick society behaves in this way.
