Not a spoiler I hope (since he's done it himself) but yet another example of the way society is going since Max Clifford, assisted by Surrey Police, invented this way to destroy celebrities who might be dangerous to the Status Quo.
In my case in 2000 it was becoming Global Chairman of EMI Records, then one of the biggest British companies (now defunct).
Whether or not I'd have been any good at it we shall never know. But if I HAD been any good, not only the global music scene but the British economy would have been very different today (no Brexit and a decent Prime Minister).
Anyway - who cares? Too late now. But read and watch the expected media hype job on Brand (who, I thought, had faded into insignificance anyway) tomorrow, if it happens, and interpret it accordingly. Regulars here will understand whether or not any "revelations" are just a part of the False Allegations Industry I've been going on about (BORING!) for 23 years.
The story has now broken (partly, I gather, from some hacks having read this thread which alerted them to watching his You Tube piece and provoked a speed up from Ch4 and the Times).
It does look awfully like False Accusers, prompted to exaggerate their stories by media (better story) are delighted to earn a few pennies (unless all interviews are unpaid, in which case I apologise). Or like the idea of fame and attention (unless they remain anonymous, in which case I apologise).
And we should remember that some false accusers genuinely believe that the offences occurred. And that media coverage provokes a massive amount of more false allegations (and defenders of "victims" will say, true allegations).
Whether this now provokes more similar claims against people with high profiles (like politicians) remains to be seen but put it this way. I wouldn't want to be someone either famous or wealthy or both in 2023. Not just in the UK. It's a hell of a good way to destroy opponents.
And for any top politicians or wealthy leaders (male or female) thinking "I'm OK; I never did anything" remember the words of (then) DPP Keir Starmer instructing police to tell claimants - "you will be believed even if you are lying". But False Accusers attracted by earning £500,000 or so simply by changing their age from 17 to 15 or Consent to No Consent years ago - we are watching you. We've done it for 23 years and we shall win.
This case will run for a long time, in several countries and on more than one continent. Doors are open to the nutters, fantasists and even the genuinely aggrieved.
Journalists are already researching and those in the legal profession are quietly posturing for business - in several jurisdictions.
Another 'jack the lad'- but what happens behind closed doors is hard to decipher for any court /jury. Prediction? Like DLT, one guilty verdict - by a majority decision...
I can't stand Russell Brand as an entertainer or even as a Youtuber. However it's the same pattern get too close to the truth. Then wham get done for sexual assault like Julian Assange did, which now the media have gone silent on.
