did the word ACTRESS become non-woke? They are now Actors. I ask because, before she became my mummy, she was, proudly, an actress.

And an actress she will always be.
It is just bollocky nonsense that diminishes women.

pondered this often..is it women's liberation claiming female thespians are equal to men therefore..we are all actors now..

If so why are thespians not all actresses including the blokes..clearly Wimmin's Lib Gone Mad and shot themselves in foot

The word actor was not (and is not) gender specific, until women started acting and men called them actresses (c 1700) to distinguish their insecure little selves. Thespians were all actors, not actresses, initially.

I don't care either way - other than whether they are any good. But this is not "wimmin's lib Gone Mad"; it is the attempted excision of an historical pejorative.

Actress equalled prostitute for a long, long time...according to men, of course.

On the BBC the other day I heard someone described as a 'female actor', as you say, there is a perfectly good word meaning that.

Yes there is - actor. "A person who's profession is acting on stage or screen." No need for a gender adjective, or a cut and paste "tress" to separate the men from the girls...
