I've just seen the Popbitch report of your correspondence with The Sun's
Jon Gaunt, and I nearly fell out of my seat laughing at your response to
his mawkish standard reply. So, many thanks for that.

Having viewed your case with great interest over the years, I fear that
you're the victim of double standards, more than anything else. There
are many well-documented and verified stories of rock gods indulging
with underage groupies and emerging without a stain on their character,
or even finding their reputations somehow enhanced. Do it with a 14
year-old girl, you're a bit of a lad, do it with a 14 year-old boy,
you're a menace to society. Society should fear your music far more than
the contents of your trousers.

A few years ago, I wrote a history of the record industry, as a result
of which, I'm in regular contact with your Decca colleague Hugh Mendl.
You may be pleased to know that he speaks of you in nothing but friendly
terms.
