At last serious coverage of this problem (as a matter of small interest, my defence against the Max Clifford/Surrey Police false allegations in 2001 cost me a million - all my savings for old age - these days I exist on a state pension and the kindness of others).

Half a million? Owch! It only cost me about half that (including lost wages for a couple of years out of work pending retrial). And I (for my retrial defence barrister) paid for top silk, who had actually been prosecution Rolf.
