QE2 didn't attend her son's wedding - at a registry office outside Windsor Castle. Many thought that unusual, bearing in mind the journey was only a few yards. No explanation has ever been forthcoming (2005, I think) 😐

As I recall from the hundreds of newspaper discussions at the time, she did not attend because she was head of the church of England, and it might have been seen as her going against their anti divorce stance.

Also, it was a teeny tiny wedding, presumably just the way they wanted it, all things considered.

She attended the blessing, and the knees up afterwards, and gave a nice speech comparing them to horses winning the race.

Wasn't that enough?

Perhaps so. But by 2005, the CofE had given the go ahead for divorcees to be remarried in church. And QE2 had attended her divorced daughter's wedding to Timothy Lawrence, in a church ceremony.

The Royal family should never explain themselves. This was Prince Philip's maxim. They need to stand above the twitter chatting masses. If we start judging them as we judge anyone else, they are finished.

Not in England. The rules were different in Scotland.
