Many won't like this. Those who feel "the BBC was to blame". Those who feel it should have condemned Savile more. Those false accusers. The media. But here it is.
My partner watched, she said it crap and pointless and the establishment will always look after each other, yet a lot is a lot speculation mixed with truth.
Ratings pretty poor for first show (under 3 million) despite enormous hype. Bet that drops to under two million by Show Four. But I don't agree with the dominant criticism about the BBC "protecting itself" and the Establishment "covering up". There was nothing to cover up. An eccentric entertainer using humour as a weapon to gain popularity and often crossing the line (in a very different place these days to then). And, of course, media hype to turn it into a good story.
Every part that Steve Coogan plays is about 60% Steve Coogan. That Manchester drawl punches through every voice he does, whether it be Jimmy Saville,Paul Raymond, or Tony Wilson (Who was from Manchester, but didn't have an accent). I don't believe that women were throwing themselves at him in. He wasn't a good-looking man. However, the make-up department deserves huge praise, particularly for the older Saville.

When I look at radio DJ's in the past they style, charisma, good voices and looks.
Savile had neither of them but somehow got popular.
Simon Dee, was a jerk and not at nice person. However he was one good looking bastard and had a personality to go with it.
When I first heard Savile calling his mother 'The Duchess' and kept her clothes. It makes you wonder if he committed incest. The more he spoke about her the more he gave off Norman Bates vibes.

GM, surely a bit of an unfair leap my old sausage.....

How true is the catholic confessional scene? If it is then did the priest break the code of confidentiality, which would be a very serious crime in his profession. On the other hand the is scene completely made-up bollox. Also there is a lot made of him meeting Margaret Thatcher. He also met and attended private dinners with Harold Wilson and Tony Blair.

The BBC have a very selective memory. I know it was produced by ITV but they are from the same cloth.
