TOPIC: Watching Shane's funeral
#239690
Watching Shane's funeral 1 Year, 6 Months ago
I was never that into The Pogues though I loved FairyTale - the best Christmas song ever after my Riding A Reindeer. But he was a great original. I cannot understand addiction, be it to drink, drugs or sex or religion or to another human being. But I tolerate it.

WOW! That performance by Glen and Lisa of Fairytale of New York was one of the finest musical moments of all time. Shane will be smiling.

I'm a little taken aback at how huge his passing and funeral coverage has been. Whatever one's take on the music - which I have long been a huge fan of, and saw them and him live many times - he was never mainstream apart from one song.

He has seemed to touch a nerve. I think it is about authenticity and originality in a bland age.

I have looked at Pogues tour archive, they toured heck off a lot in USA. I don't think Pogues were meant or aimed to be mainstream. Look at the artists from STIFF Records, well known bands and singers but most were not mainstream but got some radio play or very little.
