While I think it was a big mistake for Sunak to leave the D-Day commemorations in Normandy early, and it seems bizarre that this was planned long in advance (according to Sunak and Cameron) and no-one thought it might not be a good idea, I find the tremendous fuss about it overblown. It's understandable that the opposition candidates will make hay with this, but I don't think they, or the media, should be stirring people up and I have the impression that's what's going on. If only Boris had still been PM. He'd have never missed the photo-shoot, probably smoking a cigar...
