Complaining, and refusing to vote (like many here) is a complete cop-out. Many countries don't permit voting and many people here died, to get the right. Democracy may not work - but it's the best option we have.

No it's not - there are many better. Benign autocracy is good. Constitutional monarchy can work, depending on the monarch. The Trump decision in the Supreme Court is the ultimate result of democracy where the wrong person is elected and allowed to be dictator.

Democracy is the best option we have to get some level of democracy, of course Barney. But that is all your post is saying. You think it is saying far more self evident deep things than this; but it is not.

Australia got it right with British immigrant founders endeavouring to create a political system that would produce majority governments.
I've never been convinced by proportional representation either. If the Government formed can't fully implement the policies people voted for, what exactly are people voting for? But at a push I would probably take it over first past the post....

I think the obvious thing is - people assessed by others who know nothing about the person and nothing about the abilities required to do the job are not often suitable.

Just voted in Surrey (almost deserted polling station) where all 11 seats are held by the Conservatives, and have been for decades.
Local media suggests that about 6 seats will probably change hands - mainly to Liberal Democrats candidates. Changing times, in a historic blue county!

Now, it transpires - only 5 Surrey seats are held by Conservatives. LibDems make up most of the other 8. Labour still remain seatless.
Finally my county is not defined by being bloody Tory!
LibDems I like. And If I had bothered voting would have voted for them as the only party who made a manifesto point of stopping greedy corporations pumping shit in our rivers - wankers.

Lib Dem won in my consultancy the first in decades or maybe for the first time. They were the only party to campaign hard. However, the new MP will be invisible like the previous one. Not forgetting just as useless and corrupt.
Do really need MPs? Most of them get sacked, step down and deflect to other parties.
