TOPIC: Well done Khelif
#246566
Well done Khelif 10 Months, 1 Week ago
I'm not a fan of boxing, a brutal sport based on hurting another, nor of the current madness allowing men to invade female spaces but I totally support the right of both genders to triumph through having qualities that enable skills previously exclusively for the opposite gender. Like men giving birth - good luck to them though it rarely if ever happens, normally through surrogates. When a sports person succeeds through having skills normally associated with other genders they deserve praise, not condemnation. Martina and Serena for example. But they never had to suffer the trolling against Khelif. Of course I do tend to support Arabs (I love North Africa) but that has nothing to do with my opinion on this.

As I understand it, she has XY chromosomes and is biologically male though was registered female, brought up female, and identifies as female, though has an intersex condition (Swyer, maybe? I forget which is which)

However, she went through male puberty, therefore her muscle composition and strength is male.
It is unfortunate for her, but I dont think she should have entered against other women.

Agreed. Prioritising the desire/rights of the smallest minority over millions of women is nonsensical and cruel. And the decision was doubtless made by men.

I disagree with JK on this - it was shameful rather than celebratory.

Men and women are meant to be equal these days. In which case let women box other women as long as the rules say they can. Starting to decree just HOW female a woman is becomes a very dangerous path to tread unless one has the time, inclination and information to tread it. As I don't (as far as Olympics are concerned) I leave it to the ruling body to decide. Unless or until I'm on it, over to them. No time or inclination to consider it without knowledge.

It was a farce from the start Wyot. I guess the IOC were probably scared of the left wing mob and Stonewall.

Totally agree only Khelif is not a woman so the question of how female "she" is is beside the point.

She (I will play along) has XY chromosomes. I think the dangerous path to tread is to decree, even with ambiguous genitals and other aspects of the intersex condition I admit I know nothing about, that we can socially decree a biological "sex" which ignores the only objective biological determinant of sex: chromosomes.

Because then politics can enter biology; and we end up in the mess we are in.
