Oh the political pendulum swings yet again!
Some years back the treatment of some rape victims by the police was terrible. If I remember rightly such an incident was televised, and quite rightly caused a lot of consternation with the general public...so what happens next?
Smelling votes lost the tories went over the top the other way...and guess what,it caused a whole host of new allegations, all of which had to be taken seriously, and prosecuted, even when real evidence didn't exist.
Brings us back to the same problem with child sex offences, both imaginary, and real.Same story, and some of you here have paid a terrible price for it.
There are no votes to be gained in proving a popular(but misguided) policy is wrong, and that jails are full of its victims, hence why nothing much changes unless outside agencies come to the rescue (EU).
Most rapes occur with people who know the victim, and as such are almost impossible to provide evidence for lack of consent. Also penalties for false accusers are paltry.

I think your last sentence sums it up. Hit the flase accusers hard. A mandatory five year sentence. Make it not worth their while deliberately attempting to ruin the lives of people. Jonathan King is a one off, he has emerged strong and resilient, but stories of suicides and death brough about the sheer stress are not reported. Hit them hard, and send out a clear message to anyone who sets out to manipulate and deceive.
I cannot think of a more despicable crime. Other than premeditated murder.
