TOPIC: Jermaine Jenas
#247136
Jermaine Jenas 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
A new thread - I think the BBC are so terrified of more Savile/Edwards type negative media publicity, they are rushing to distance themselves. I think they were quite right not to condemn Huw Edwards before serious charges were brought (and he's been foolish to do a plea deal). I think they were quite right not to condemn Savile - everything since his death indicates he is a victim of false allegations - back then, only possible after a victim's death.
But I know nothing.

Learning a bit more today thanks to The Sun, it re-inforces my opinion that Jermaine has been a silly boy but ought not to be condemned as a multiple child murderer or rapist as media and society tend to do in 2024, after exaggeration. Yes - that can go both ways. We don't know whether more really went on. But what we DO know or can guess is that after this media publicity dozens more will come out of the woodwork, many of whom have never met the man, who will claim rape or worse and demand loads of compensation cash. What a world we live in!

QUESTION... should Prince Philip have been shot for flirting with an actress? ANSWER - these days, yes. Why? Because it's a great story! His son has been excommunicated for NOT having had sex with a passing hooker yet buying her off. These days celebrities are "done" for complimenting someone. "I like that dress". OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!!

I don't think he should be vilified or lose his career. Comparing him to the moors murderers etc is ridiculous. But as the father of a daughter, I am glad men are in this age no longer free to harass women with impunity. For me, it is the proportionality of response that is wrong, not the response.

Yes agreed - I was always hugely careful as a boss that nobody employed by me even had any knowledge of my sexuality or preferences. A horrid pressure to put on vulnerable people. They were praised or fired solely on the quality of their work and ability. But many went much further. Not just affairs but sometimes even marriages came from the workplace. The law needs to look at individual circumstances - not bow to media pressure for a better story - and so should employers of every type.
