HMO's 9 Months ago
Bournemouth is one of those times that is safe during the day but rough at night. I hate being harrassed for money or for a ciggie when I am there, several times a day. I never understood why they changed bedsits to HMO's, most of them are drug dens. Boscombe was a decent town but it changed when a greedy landlord got involved with local politics.

Addicts went to Boscombe for rehab. So a bloke a first name called David, converted flats and houses he got on the cheap turn in to HMO's. Overtime the people who used the rehab brought their mates found or were sent there. So they mingled and circle continues.

When they fight over money or drugs their blades are drawn. So rehab really was a waste of time and money for a lot of people.

Again Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole don't really have a lot of jobs going, most of them go the students that includes the strip clubs and bar work.

House in Multiple Occupation - these are in every town/city in the UK. Same pros and cons; good usage of space and abuses.

London has thousands all over it - and couldn't survive without them. Most people live in them, on arrival.

Victorian buildings lend themselves to conversions and shared houses fill the needs of many, who have no desire to own.

With the exception of teenagers moving away from home who need the company and support, I cant think who would prefer to live in multiple occupation instead of their own house?

Seems Barney lives in one.

I can't think of any worse than a sharing a bathroom and kitchen with someone who does clean up themselves. Not everyone in the building will get on in a lot of cases.

No doubt living in each other's pocket happens because someone can't budget well. With potheads, smackheads, gamblers and alkies, their vice comes first before rent. There is nothing worse for a non-(pot)smoker and drinker to be living with someone who does .

I'd rather live in a pokey than a bedsit, at least you have your own space. I can't imagine many boat people in a bedsit, I am surprised Labour didn't buy out the hotels to turn into flats. There is so many taxes to pay for flying to abroad now.

Rental costs - particularly in major cities - are the significant factor.

In central London, a small flat can cost more than £2k pm!

If you want to pay that for a bedsit, rent a garage.

Yes, but this hasn't always been the case, and is not something to celebrate.
If there is no choice you have to make the best of it, but it is far from ideal.

I think Barney, would be happy if we were poor and miserable like him. Not forgetting following the government rules no matter what.

He doesnt sound poor, with his business calls and trips abroad, so he must just be more gregarious than we are, Green Man.

I rest my case. Prices are astronomical in the centre now.
