TOPIC: National Debt - to Treble

National Debt - to Treble 9 Months ago
Says the OBR - and it took a change in government for this to be made public! Our income from taxation, exports and other sources - won't be sufficient to pay our costs.

Thus, every year, increased borrowing will be required to fund the NHS and a steadily growing benefits bill - all by adding to the Dedt. Nobody told us it was this bad before - certainly not the Tories.

It seems virtually certain then that the budget surpluses achieved by Brown and Blair will be the last in all our lifetimes - with the urgent priority now, to pay the annual interest on the Dedt - tens of billions!

BBC News - National debt set to treble over next 50 years, says OBR - BBC News

There's at least a couple of decades of austerity ahead.

What's your point Barney? I don't come here to read BBC news. I visit the BBC news website for that.

I have a point.

One of the main causes of the current dire state of public finances was the pointless lockdowns you supported.

How many more lives will be lost in the end to the panic rather than the virus, I wonder.

This shouldn't be news to anyone who in 2020 was even slightly informed about existing national debt and had the imagination to realise that the consequences of locking down would not just be terrible financially , but also take, over the years, a dreadful human toll.

But of course that wasn't allowed to be discussed at the time. Let alone factored into decision making.

It all makes you wonder what the hell the austerity years under Cameron and Osbourne were all about doesn't it.

Now the National Debt is £2.74 trillion

In 1979, it was a manageable £88 billion

Just check the "000's"....
