TOPIC: American Presidential race

American Presidential race 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
The Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot demonising Trump, as they tried using the failsafe (they thought) False Allegations route. The more they condemn him, the more bonkers he appears (like Boris a few years ago in the UK) and the more his fans - and the undecided - grudgingly admire him. Singing and dancing (??) along to YMCA is exactly the kind of thing that makes you feel "at least he's not like all the other politicians". Then you think "well he wasn't as bad a President as we feared" last time - especially if controlled by a Democrat Congress and Senate. I said ages ago - Harris must hugely outspend Trump in the seven swing states on TV, Billboards, radio, social media, newspapers etc. Then she should win.

I don't claim to follow it that closely but the Democrats do seem, somehow, to be cocking it up...

I have always loathed Trump and everything he stands for.

His first presidency wasn't quite as awful in real terms as feared, but he has clearly mentally deteriorated since then, and his second could be *interesting*...

Even the old-school Dems, like Chuck Schumer, have joined the Trump train. Harris had it all but has fucked it up for herself, she is a terrible speaker and liar, she went on the wrong podcasts for starters. Tim Pool is very centre and libertarian when it comes to politics, he has millions of viewers from both sides of the political spectrum, and he had Trump on his show.

Biden said he would run again and have a second debate with Trump, but he is nowhere to be seen, Biden is still President, right? Harris said she will do XYZ if she wins, why haven't the Dems put their manifesto into action, they have the last few years to do so. The USA is pretty much bankrupt due to forever wars and washing money into Ukraine. The USA now have a massive migrant problem and huge crime rates whilst in South America crime is now low...I wonder why!

I agree she has been very disappointing and looks like she is handing the next Presidency to Trump. What blessed political times we live in....

JK2006 I'm English with no vote but have an American wife who was vehemently against Trump 2016 and voted for the Clinton Democrats. Despite reservations she went with Biden last time. 8 years ago she couldn't stand Trump but now in 2024 she's on side with his current agenda and says she was wrong about him and has warmed to him and misjudged him as a person. There is a real phenomena of previous Trump haters coming across to him, not sure how big this is, but Vance used to say terrible things about Trump 8 years ago and now look at him. I think this might be propelled by the poor candidate that Trump's opponent Harris is. After Hillary lost in 2016 she was widely panned as a very poor candidate by many, but I see Harris as a far poorer candidate than Hillary ever was and if she loses then this is what will be the narrative quite quickly. The Democratic argument isn't cutting through, when Harris hasn't even earned her place on the Presidential ballot like Trump has, and all the lawfare attempts to stop Trump ever getting to the ballot he has actually earned. Speaking for myself I think Biden made Trump look youthful and energetic and rather better than he probably deserves, but Harris is also making Trump look very good intellectually and on policy, she's that poor. Those who suggest Trump wants to be a dictator need to be asked if they really think he would not leave office after 4 years on 20/1/29 if he won. Nobody serious could possibly suggest he would stay around beyond then.

The weird thing is Trump's often bizarre off course rants and inexplicable, ney now distasteful rants as in describing a famous deceased golfer's shlong seems to endear him to his following.

Word is that internal Republican polling is dire but polls can always be wrong.

It's difficult to work how much of Trump's promises are real or just talk such as using the army to round political opponents and jail them.

The fact Trump says these things including he will jail those who say bad things about him and his Hitler style attacks on immigrants..describing them as vermin, does not cause alarm puzzles me.

I'd be intrigued to know what these Trump policies are

Maybe the one where he says he will jail his political opponents or even people who don't like him.

You don't have to GM. He is directly coming out with this bizarre weird shit. This is a rare case where media spin isn't needed but lots of people still assume there is a media plot behind these utterances and shrug them off - assuming the real Trump will arise phoenix-like as President.

I've really never seen anything like it.

No I don't watch CNN which coincidentally has a Trump friendly CEO who is also anti-Harris.

The quote has been widely reported as seen here in The Guardian but any of the US networks covered it last month and also when he said similar around 12 months ago.

If you search Google there are plenty of sites carrying the video which I saw on x/Twitter.

Oh CBS, another anti-Trump network.

that's odd..I have no idea which networks are pro or anti Trump but the reality is he has said twice now with nearly a year in between..that he will jail his political opponents.

of course it may be him rambling away again or part of his "weave" as he strings a few subjects together.

I saw Trump at his Pennsylvania rally last night and thought he looked a lot sharper with a neater hairdo that looked better combed and darker which made him look very businesslike.

That's odd the Dems have jailed his Trump allies and wanted to lock Trump up.

Dan Hodges of the Daily Mail tweeted this earlier;

There is obviously still time for the picture to change. But on current polling - both national and statewide - it's clear Trump is moving ahead. To the point I'm not sure it will be the close result people are expecting. At least not in the Electoral College.

So clearly Harris will win because Hodges often calls everything completely wrong!
