I'm not sure that the idols theme works. The dancers are spending more time singing/miming or posing than dancing. For Wynne there was no visual element to the icon theme, although he couldn't really black-up to look like Shirley Bassey. I think overall the standard was lower than recent weeks.
I hate to say this (and it’s only really based on how I’m feeling this series) but I’m getting the impression Strictly is approaching it’s sell by date? Maybe off the back of the ‘scandal’ revealed in the summer but it strikes me the production team is trying a bit too hard and attempting to be more and more PC and amusing at the same time…
I think Montell and Johannes are often tremendous. Agree with Robbie - the Idols theme didn't work at all and I am getting annoyed by dressing up the judges. Once a series - fine. But every show lowers the quality of their opinions. This week's show was weak (last week's was incredible).
I did like Craig's comment about Sam having "a hockey stick up her backbone" - I thought that too - I also thought doing Taylor Swift (who nobody cares about apart from a few Swifties) was a serious mistake. Taylor is indeed an "icon" in 2024 but 2024 no longer has real icons, only marketed ones to specialist fan areas.
