Just seen the film; rather nervous as reviews were mixed and I so loved the books but I think it's terrific - they cover the exciting plot and it moves along like a cracker without losing the subtlety.

No wonder Pullman loves it - it's a great, simple, spectacular treatment without damaging the marvellous depth of the book (which everybody should read as well).

The bears are magnificent. So is the killing of the daemons.

Wonderful movie though my friend (who gave me the books 6 years ago) was less keen.

Can't wait to see it, once I manage to get some spare time, that is, and it's about twelve miles to my nearest cinema!

Sounds like it would be worth the trouble though.

Does it cover all three books, by the way?
