I think it has to be Keely Hodgkinson. She was the star of the olympics. Alex did great, but I think that Keely has more presence. I predicted the Strictly winner weeks before, so I'm going for the double.
Sarah Storey has won dozens of gold medals in the Paralympics, but I think her disability is much less than most of her competitors. I don't want to take anything away from her, but how much does a hand injury affect cycling.

Alex didn't even make the top 3 - which only goes to show; it's the media wot counts!

Any programme that can award Princess Anne the sports personality of the year award (1971), and then do the same for her daughter Zara Phillips years later also (2006), isn't worth wasting too much time over.

Worse still, Princess Anne beat a true popular sporting personality into 2nd place, none other than George Best. What a bad joke, and then to pull the royal stunt again 35 years later. We all know without the royal connection neither would have even been on the shortlist, never mind won it.

Now we have the BBC pushing their own agendas, hence two women footballers win in the previous two years, 2022 and 2023. But of course they have a very restricted shortlist to vote from, trying to control the thing tightly, they can't allow a proper fair and free vote after all, who knows who might win then, someone not approved by the BBC.

Yet some of the most prolific sporting achievers over decades, real personalities, have never won the thing, most notably Ronnie O'Sullivan but also Stephen Hendry, both World Champions 7 times over, or for that matter the much adored Jimmy White, and that'sjust in snooker alone.

The public voted for Princess Anne, not the BBC. They sent in postcards and the highest number won. No one could argue with Keely winning. She is talented, smart, good looking and charismatic. She was always going to win. They had to introduce shortlist when it became computerised, because computers can't deal with freeform text, and different spellings.

Jimmy White has never won a championship. He became a running joke.

Snooker was fun to watch when the snooker players had personalities they are like drones these days. Judd Trump comes to mind he is superb but very boring to listen to. Then again he is from Bristol, the place for boring people.
