I'm afraid I've never watched - or "got" - G&S so I gave this 30 mins and could not understand a second of the "humour". People have changed. Humour is different (I laughed at Morecombe and Wise 1977 several times). I blame myself not the clearly much loved show.
I enjoyed it well enough. The characters are likeable and there are some good one-liners with a great cast. Sheridan Smith, Anna Maxwell-Martin, and Alison Steadman. However it had a few old rom-com ciche's like being with the wrong woman and dashing to the Port/Airport/rail station to find his girl before she leaves for good (he could have just phoned).
At 12.3 million viewers for this and 9 million for Wallace and Gromit, the reports that linear tv is dead are greatly exagerated. They will never reach the highs of the 70s and 80s, but still very significant.
My partner and I spent the day watching Mr Bean and Rising Damp with her parents while we indulged in some vile but expensive Primitivo wine. Being a guest at the house, I didn't have a say in what to watch. Personally, I would have enjoyed playing Battleships with some Kitty Wells albums playing in the background.
