Donald Trump has invited a number of other national leaders to his inauguration on 20th January, some are going, some have declined, but our own British PM hasn't had an invite. Isn't this special relationship between the UK and the USA a bit of a myth nowadays, and with Starmer up against Trump from next week it must be due to enter not just the chilly fridge but maybe the deep freeze.

The UK is now having its own Biden moment isn't it.

I read reports that no British leader has ever been invited over the decades. Seems odd.

Michelle Obama isn't going and why would she..Trump has said such vile things about her.

Of course Michelle's decision has been picked up by Fox News as some sort in insult yet they completely ignore Trump didn't go to Biden's inauguration.

Of course you are almost certainly correct here and why open himself up to a Starmer snub. Do any other lower ranking UK government members go to these things do we know? On British leaders not getting invites it is a strange one, especially if you think back 40 years to the second inauguration of President Reagan in January 1985 by which time he had developed a very strong relationship and personal bond with Mrs Thatcher but she didn't attend, although this ceremony took place inside in the rotunda with fewer people at the time because it was so cold outside. It also took place twice, on 20th January and 21st January, due to the 20th being a Sunday being the reason I think so making the public ceremony the Monday after Reagan did the first one in the White House more quietly. It seems a bit odd taking the same oath of office twice.

It must be quite some adrenalin rush to raise your right hand and swear an oath to become President of the United States for the first time, to then lower your arm and realise the power you have now assumed in that moment.
