I felt the call for her resignation was unfair and stupid. Understandable that Andrew Malkinson wanted an apology and obvious that this would only be forthcoming, as it was, after examination of the circumstances. Victims think that is too slow. Quite right but inevitable. Punters go for the "apologise now" slogan - so, of course, does the media. But it's not right or fair before investigation. We are ruled by tabloid headlines and slogans. We should not be. Likewise the resignation over a mistake made BEFORE Pitcher's time - when the appeal was granted AFTER and DURING her tenure. As were the Horizon scandal appeals (though many of those were provoked by ITV). Yes - the CCRC is in a dreadful state and there have been hundreds of miscarriages of justice not overturned (like my own from 25 years ago - I'm still appealing, partly because of parts of the Malkinson verdict). But causing the Chairman to resign is wrong. She should have been given a massive budget increase and should have told the Government IMMEDIATELY to recompensate both Malkinson and the hundreds of sub postmasters. She should still be there - organising THIS WEEK a referral to the Court of Appeal the Lucy Letby case.
Who should replace her? NOW! The joint Chairmanship of Emily Bolton and Matt Foot from APPEAL. I have written Starmer to tell him this.
