Does scrapping USAID risk global health? 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Judge temporarily blocks Trump plan to put thousands of USAID staff on leave

...Trump has argued that USAID, the overseas aid agency, is not a valuable use of taxpayer money and wants to dismantle it - with plans to put nearly all of the agency's 10,000 employees on leave, except 611 workers. …

USAID is the world's biggest aid donor - with much of its budget spent on health programmes around the world...

Wonder what would happen to US and global health if USAID is scrapped and there's another pandemic, e.g. monkepox (an African health expert said on the news recently that this is a real possibility as it's surging in Africa) and RFK Jr is in charge of US health policy. Would Trump stop the virus from entering the USA with an executive order? Would he and RFK Jr pledge US money for developing a vaccine or would other countries be on their own?

You would have thought by now Africa would have found a cure for Money-pox.

I am amazed countries still take from America since the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

Trump is as interested in World Health as he is in climate change. That's because he's an idiot. He's at the Superbowl tomorrow. The boos are gonna be deafening. Especially if his puppet master is with him.

Of course such a sudden withdrawal will lead to 1000s of deaths.

To somehow imply that Africa should be able to pull itself by it's boot straps after being looted and raped for 200 years by the West of every bot of valuable resource is obscene.

We white people are just vile in how our inbuilt imperial "superiority" decides who lives and dies and where.

(one tiny example- president Musk of the USA whose family made a huge fortune under Apartheid out of emeralds)

Do you think so? I'm not sure climate change or world health and US aid abroad are really something the vast majority of the MAGA set really think about.

Youtube has heaps of films of MAGA Regret folk who all seemed to think he didn't mean their spouses when he said he'd deport them but it's not a vast majority.

There are even heaps of MAGA DEI hires who have lost their jobs.I don't recall him saying that was on the cards. But the vast general piblic will see this as "saving money waste" and so on.

Meanwhile they just seem to adore President Musk who is on one hand clearing out $billions in government spending (there could be waste but how would we know) and at the same receiving $Billions in government grants for SpaceX and Tesla.

One might think this is the Mother of All Conflicts Of Interest but we live in different times.

I mean he just announced he was taking over a Middle East country and will forcibly remove the residents and build a glittering homage to genocide and most people are cheering him on.

I think VP Trump may be cheered by the audience.
