The universe's two biggest interest captivators - followed by music, I believe

Here is the data about one! Even those who say they don't watch - do.

I did enjoy the NBA 40 years ago, it had a lot of coverage but it can't seem to find a broadcaster in the UK who sticks with it.

I also enjoyed NASCAR, I don't like watching delayed footage the next day on YT. I liked it live.

I have virtually zilch interest in sports even though I happily played football at school.

Looking at religions (v sport) - it seems that sport is a lot more popular!

With more tennis followers than Hinduism - and as many golf fans as Buddhism.

The data doesn't show anything of the sort Barney.

It just shows that, e.g, football may have more followers than Christianity by region. However, both charts just break down global population by the most popular sports and religions.

Both charts simply assume favour for a particular sport or religion by geographical population. The data shows the same "popularity" for religions and sport.

You don't think they polled everyone in the world, right?

The data shows the same "popularity" for religions and sport. Because it is measuring populations by association, not commitment to rugby or zoroastroism.

In other words it is click-bait that shows no more than vague associations.

You don't think they polled everyone in the world, right?

I can't disagree with the observations and conclusions about my remarks - which were meant to be more thought provoking, than anything else.

But certainly the rise in the popularity of sports has been phenomenal - with women also joining in, in droves recently. The reasons include the following.

More leisure time; satellite/internet; high revenues; enormous variety; advertising potential; broadcasting expertise; competition/rivalry etc.
