RIP Gene Hackman 2 Months ago
Probably my alltime favourite actor - if he was in a film you could guarantee it would be worth seeing.

Might I suggest, rather than watch the obvious French Connection film, if you've never seen a Hackman movie you watch FC2 - there is a 20 minute sequence in it that was, I think, Gene's finest ever performance. It's a cracking good followup anyway - just as good as the award winning first. My other fave was Enemy of the People.

Great actor, great human being. Very sad as it looks like a suicide pact. Real love.

My very favourite film actor. Utterly brilliant. The good thing is - now we'll be deluged with his films on terrestrial TV - I urge all posters and viewers to watch every one - He never disappoints (even in that dreadful sinking ship movie).

It's very sad. He was a great actor and it looks as if his wife was a talented pianist too. Some discussion in the video.

If they both dropped to the floor, that doesn't sound planned by one or both of them to me - not that I know anything about these things.

I am not a movie fan nor do I follow much celebrity news it's mostly a distraction from real news.

I was shocked to see how frail Gene Hackman looked, skinny and on a cane. The last time I saw a photo of several years ago he was still fairly broad and still looked a bit like Popeye Doyle.

Gene Hackman has done some cracking movies but also a lot of turkeys and borderline pulp movies. Hunt For Red October is a pulp movie based on a pulpy airport book.

I do agree with JK, French Connection 2 is better. It's mostly Doyle being tortured and getting shot with H, who becomes addicted to it. It's harrowing to watch.

Did you ever ask him?

Wyot watches 2 TVs one for Gene Hackman movies and the other for sports to help boost up the viewing figures.

I can only wonder why you find this "odd" Barney (even though actually I have), though not for long.

Bless you.

This excellent site has an internal search facility - have a look; it's impressive!

It confirms that W hasn't mentioned Hackman, ever:Evidence, to the contrary, is welcome.

One of my all time favouyrite actors and like JK, I would watch anything he is in.

Whie we don't know the circumstances it seems more to me that Hackman died of old age and his loving wife may have suicided.

Watching interviews with locals it seems the pair were totally loved in their town and were active in the local community.

Just imagine the distress when a much younger wife finds her partner dead and faces decades without him.

I never said I mentioned it here Barney...

May I be forgiven. I was just amusing myself knowing you would follow it up.

I was pulling your strings dear...

Happy to help Barney:

You need to check out page 2 of the impressive internal search facility... (search "Hackman").

Don't evade responsibility Barney, it's childish.

You want to troll me at least read me more carefully and be thorough.

But preferably don't troll at all. It is wholly unnecessary.

That said, I value most of your contributions to this site, and wish you well.
