For those of you interested in the expanding cost of miscarriages of justice... 17 Years, 4 Months ago
Last Year we paid out 12.87 Million pounds in compensation to those wrongly convicted (and just imagine the thousands of inmates unable to prove their innocence).

In a way-that is pleasing news. Although nothing can compensate for a wrongful conviction, it does mean something is being done about it.
But until police who lie and fabricate evidence are hauled before the courts and made to pay the full penalty for their misdeeds and lose all benefits or perhaps-made to pay personally for the costs of a wrongful conviction ( unless it happened innocently and was a genuine mistake)this matter will only get worse.
Politicians need to be called to account as well. They continually verbally batter police in their phony "law and order" campaigns and drive up the necessity for more arrests and convictions.
I believe all those in the public service sector, including police and most certainly politiicans should be made sign a contract that carries severe penalties for outright lies and deception. Maybe then we would get truthful cops and pollies. As it now-we pay them to lie and cheat.
