I'm a huge Stephen Graham fan so watched Part One of this. Also like Jack Thorne, the writer.
It's really good and tells you just how terrifying it is to be arrested and questioned - especially for crimes you have not committed.
Has the kid in this done it? Graham plays the father.
Well worth watching for the bigger picture.
I've now watched Episode 2 and this is incredible stuff. From brilliant writing to stunning acting (much from children). The "one shot" is game changing - there is a scene right at the end which I'm still trying to work out how they did it. Truly amazing. This series will win so many awards it will make jaws drop.
Dear Netflix - Please edit Adolescence for the cinema. It will be 4 hours but is far better than The Brutalist and does not need an interval. The viewer cannot take their eyes off it for the full 4 hours.
It will win Best Film Oscar 2026.
Dear BBC - please get Netflix to let you show this Prime Time BBC1 in full. It is a public service and everybody needs to see it.
And just in passing - Owen Cooper's first and only acting job is the best child acting part ever - even including the boy in The Sixth Sense. BAFTA dead certain (put £100 on it).
Just to add three bits - the disruptive kid in the school bits - fabulous and so much better as they do not close up or reaction shot - it is just a school class as normal. Second - must mention the woman in Part Three - fabulous acting with only a few words (Owen Cooper in that episode is incredible) - and Third - how on earth did they do that drone shot at the end of Part Two? Jaw dropping.
It's just made the news with Graham and Thorne interviewed.
People are starting to call this the Mr Bates of 2025.
It will change society.
But who cares about that? It is brilliant film making.
5 days ago I told you all about this series on Netflix. Literally thousands of views picked up on it and spread the word globally. Now it is No1 in 79 countries.
