Landline 1 Month, 1 Week ago
Scary to read landlines are being phased out in the UK.

I'm (decrepit)like the old dear in this story and rely on my landline for better hearing.Hope the idea is not picked up here in Oz.

Can manage with a mobile but often hearing is a problem along with lost calls that sometimes don't get through for whatever reason.

I'm SOO deaf now Hedda that I can't hear the phone (and get very confused feedback with hearing aids and phones) so do it all on Zoom or WhatsApp with headphones! If you want to try that, e-mail me privately with you phone number - then we can also see each other!

I want to get rid of my landline, but am aware that one elderly relative is reliant on it. Apart from her, no one rings it.

But I think these telecom companies should be obligated to respect those who still rely on landlines.

The information here (www.bt.com/about/all-ip), including the Ofcom link, is more reassuring than that article.

I have a landline too and hope that with the new technology it will still be practical and affordable.

Try telling the yoof of today about phoning home when at Uni and having to wait for the pips, or more often than not a reverse charge call. Stale tobacco and urine. And that was just me. Asking Mum if she could mail me £20 with a first class stamp. lol. Long before Covid, phone boxes must have literally been virus booths.

Thanks JK but I don't have a pc camera.
I'm a bit Greta Garboish and don't let the public see my faded beauty now.

I've been assured by my landline provider that there are no plans to cease providing the service rather they intend to provide more services via that method. Cant't keep really.
