Vance scolds Denmark during Greenland trip

The US attitude to Greenland seems to be at odds with its policy on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. On the one hand, the US administration seems to be saying that Russia and China pose a risk to US/global security if Greenland doesn't become independent from Denmark, presumably with a view to being colonised/controlled/absorbed by the US. On the other, they seem to be going easy on Russia in their negotiations on Ukraine and even set on rewarding it for invading Ukraine (e.g. by easing sanctions). I don't understand it, unless their attitude to Greenland is less about security than about getting control of its mineral wealth. And if the US gets Greenland, surely that justifies Russia getting Ukraine, China getting Taiwan, etc.

I have no idea why they fussed about Greenland when UK has billions of tons of coal and oil underground doing nothing.

Greenland's citizens may well be better off, if the country was annexed to the USA - ignoring, temporarily, the rights and wrongs of it.

But a charm offensive was the obvious strategy for the USA, not undignified threats and unwanted visits.

The USA has little presence in Greenland nowadays and their strategy will have alleniated the natives, making the task harder.

And much longer to implement. But the leaked meeting and comments about Europe gave the world an accurate insight into US thinking.

Despite its checkered past China is the most restrained and impeccably behaved Nation of them all. In the face of constant US muscle flexing. But it's interesting how Trump is now trying to woo Canada again and appears to have taken a shine to Carney . The man bends and winds like a decapitated serpent.

Why on earth would Greenlanders be better off as part of the USA?

At present they enjoy all the benefits of Denmark's socialised economy including $22 an hour wages, good pensions, affordable housing, generous holidays etc etc.

Trump and his Welfare Queen are decimating any US policy that aids US citizens including disgracefully attacking veteran's benefits.

It's extraordinary US citizens en mass are not objecting to vile Trump's expansionist ambitions.

Seems millions would have cheered Hitler's advances into Poland (and of course there was a huge Nazi element in US society during WW2)

Just remarkable that this awful dementing fool still has slack jawed, rusted on cult like followers as he lies, lies and lies on a daily basis.

So much for ending wars on Day One.

Yes they could welcome an obesity pandemic and regular high school gun massacres, as well as a collective intelligence drop so steep as to elect morons like Trump into office.

But yes some of them will have a few more quid to buy more burgers and pollute the planet with a third unnecesary car...

Charm offensive or diplomacy aren't necessary!

Preposterous position - won't be long before many countries back Greenland's reaction.

I can't get over how quickly the UK caught up with America with lard asses, plastic crap from shops and overpriced cars.

However, houses in America are still much cheaper than the UK.

Re:Greenland 1 Month ago
I'd rather the United States had Greenland than China or Russia, and Greenland is on the North American techtonic plate. If Denmark are asleep at the wheel and there is any possibility of this being taken advantage of by our opponents/enemies then they must be made to wake up. Annexation or even talk of it is not the answer though, that would be totally unacceptable and play straight into the hands of all our despotic enemies and China would then feel free and vindicated taking Taiwan at any moment, and what could we turn around and say if they did after Trump annexed Greenland.

I sincerely hope these intimidating words are nothing more than some mind game negotiating tactic and not to be taken literally but you do wonder if Trump has secretly cooked something up between himself and Putin regards Greenland and access to it's mineral wealth.

The bottom line is you should not be openly threatening your friends and allies.

Trump does need a few more people around him to say "No, Mr President". Nobody should only be surrounded by yes men and women who are afraid to say no.

There is a very good case to be made for the United States having Greenland for Western security and it was made convincingly by Marco Rubio on Megyn Kelly's podcast a few weeks ago.

When and where did I say [b
everywhere
in America?

Did you give header the ball to many times at school or something or when you were a semi-pro for Woking FC?

It would start with Greenland and Canada would follow.

It's just amazing this dangerous idiot is in charge of the Western world.

I still can't over how f*cking vile and dumb his rusted on MAGA supporters are.

As for the world's biggest Welfare Queen who at times emulates a Fentanyl addict, why on earth is Britain giving this absolute leach tens of millions of pounds in subsidies for his stupid crap cars?

# 4 months in now and still war rages. Lies all of it. Blatant lies and sane people believed them.

When I don't think Starmer could get any more offensive he manages it.

He wants to try and tame Trump and wiggle out of his tariffs on the UK by promising to give massive tax breaks to American tech firms worth billions already, whilst here at home he is happy to keep screwing the British population with ever more tax hikes and even more threatened later in the year still.

Fun Facts: The 1775 American Revolution was started over anger because of a tax / tariff on tea.

(Trump is so rude to France who not only funded the Revolution / War of Independence but sent troops to fight on the US side.

The 1929 Wall Street crash and subsequent Depression was preceded by a Tariff War.

Everything old is new again.
