Import Tax reality 3 Weeks, 4 Days ago
let's call tariffs what they used to be called..import tax.

As of today an IPhone that cost $549 in the USA just leapt up to $846 if the importer passes on the import tax (which they will) of $296.

Maybe Americans will just adjust their spending and buy less.

There are other phones out there, I wouldn't be surprised if burner phones became a thing again, a lot of second hand shops do still buy and sell old phones.

And Trump tells em to hang tough? He's a billionaire. Like Brexit for UK there isn't a single benefit for anyone. Just another way of widening the gulf tween rich and poor. What is gob smacking is his condemnation of retaliatory tariffs. If Biden had done this the Right would be in meltdown.

and therein is the problem. How many are made in the USA and thus avoid tariffs?

And if an iphone clone could be made in the USA can it be made as cheaply as China or India?

I think not.

Or will Apple invest $Billions in building a US Iphone factory (which still couldn't make an Iphone cheaper than China) when Trump could change his mind on tariffs or lose power in 4 years.

This is just an example. Multiply it a 1000 times for other products Walmart, Costco, Nike, Steel and so on.
