Time checks still go out on the radio - why?

Almost nobody needs them anymore. Even without a watch on, most now have a phone in the pocket or hand permanently with the clock. Nobody in this day and age is unaware of the very accurate time. Even without that, even many radio's have a clock, and other items. I have three showing the time in the kitchen, hard to miss.

Another point, with more of us listening to things like BBC Sounds or other radio apps after original broadcast it makes time checks meaningless. The reason I write this is because I keep hearing Tony Blackburn doing timechecks on his shows I'm listening to on BBC Sounds, I believe more people listen to his 60's show on Sounds than live, so why aren't producers telling presenters to drop time checks in this day and age. They need a time check of their own, to tell them it's not the 1970's/1980's anymore.

To be fair Rich there were watches and clocks in the 60s and 70s and 80s? Why do they do news? I can get news anywhere now.

The only time I have the radio is for for the TA. The CD resumes straight after in the truck.

I hate the radio, mundane chat, stuff they call music, sports, fake laughs the fake news on the radio.

I do the miss the days when you could receive some German heavy rock stations on the LW. Now it's just static even on the coast of the UK.
