Rather like tariffs I know nothing and want to know nothing - that's why we elect people - to do the right thing. But is Nationalisation going to be any better than private ownership? I'm far from convinced that government employees will do any better than the Chinese. All I know is that NO politician cares about steel - they only care about appearing to do the right thing for constituents (voters).

Privatisation is a scam (mainly started by the appalling Thatcher) that bullshits the public with the notion private enterprise does it better.

It's ludicrous as obviously privately run utilities with basically a monopoly will always invest little in the product and extract as much profit as possible which is why Britain now literally has shit in it's rivers and beaches.

Governments are the ones who build the giants enterprises like railways and steel mills.

Ironic that much of Britain's railways are owned now by European governments that reap the vast rewards for their own people while the British miss out.

I know Hedda and as an old socialist I wouldn't have expected otherwise. But I tend to disagree - I reckon GENERALLY private ownership means a desire for profits and the biggest profits come from intelligent and positive efficiency. Without that incentive companies fail and without that likewise state run fails as in communism.

Vital industries for Public Service or Private Profit?

Beyond the tired old cliche false-binary 'Capitalism or Communism' the UK was promised better, cheaper services when Thatcher privatized public services. Instead, 40 years on, we're paying much more for far worse services down to Dickensian levels of deprivation.

Yet a healthy EU middle-line approach has delivered modern service, efficiency, and profit. While the UK fake vote Brexit delivered a true 62% majority 'Remain' masked by a rigged system of low turnout 'Leave' with no-penalty for not voting, but £1,000 fine for non-return of a Censor Form (of control).

Since UK privatization, water bills, energy bills, rail and bus fares have risen far above inflation.

The quality of UK public services is clearly damaged by privatization. Terrible public transport, raw sewage in rivers and seas, worse care in the NHS used as a privateers 'Cash Cow'.

Thatcher's U.S. fave free/fraud-marketeer Reagan, falsely said, "Government is the problem, not the solution." Since then the privateers' fraud-market has proven to be the problem not the solution.

For decades the gullible UK has been constantly 'groomed' by the privatization gang. Their first scam was appointing Beeching to privatize British Rail by quietly changing the timetables. So that travelers tired of long waits between inter-city and local connections, began using taxis, buses and private cars on the then new motorways being built by the Tory Transport Minister's company 'Marples Ridgeway'. While increasingly unused local branch lines were bought by Tory privateers for profitable re-development at the UK public loss.

I see the UK is having to import coal and other stuff FROM AMERICA!!! Why? If these are so vital to steel manufacture, why have we closed so many mines? It's beyond me - if Trump wants the USA to start making microchips and stuff, currently made in China and Vietnam and other places because of cheap labour, why doesn't he open the borders for cheap labour to come to the US to man the new factories?

Currently rounding migrants up--mostly innocent people---without trial and forcing them into what are essentially concentration camps. 'Prisons' functioning outside of a judicial process are not prisons. And we have reports now of severe mistreatment and possible torture. This is far from making America Great again.
