TOPIC: Vatican City - tomorrow
#258436
Al Gershwin

Vatican City - tomorrow 5 Days, 5 Hours ago
Francis will leave us for ever - the first Pope to apologise for/acknowledge international child abuse, by Catholic clergy.

One other great/new decision was to allow gay marriages to be blessed by a priest/church. 'Who am I to judge'...he said.

and actor Mel Gibson charmingly posted a pic with Francis sitting hand in hand with the Devil.

When is the election?

I wonder if the new Pope has fiddled about or is fiddling about. I am sure Barney will be happy if FIFA allows the Vatican to be in the World Cup one day. Just keep the ball boys away, that's all.

I am more interested in the Vatican archives than who the next Pope is going to be.

Fewer Popes and religion suits me fine.

Not yet decided, I believe - but in about a week or two.

Yes "woke" usually just means treating people decently. Unfortunately the awful word has been weaponised by haters.

Mel knows too much, he needs to watch his car brakes and hire 24/7 bodyguards.

How is it that when people take anything to extremes they lose all sight of what the thing is?

Gibson is in some ultra catholic sect, but this image is completely un christian. And he can't see that he has moved so far away from New Testament teachings that he is hand in hand with the devil he believes in...

I used to think this too GM but now fear that what replaces religion is far worse for humanity.

We can see what worship of the self rather than something greater and external is doing for human beings every day. We don't lose the notion of a God if we jettison it; we make ourselves fill the gap.

Forgetting if we "believe" it or not there is a utility, an individual and collective cohesion, to religion that every human culture (so far) has felt the need for.

Starmer so devoid of any stardust, media have pics of everyone else...even Biden. The pic of Trump and Zelenshy in talks in St Basilca is quite iconic.

You prove my point GM.

As soon as our brains evolved beyond a certain point people have needed religion in some form. But it results from cognitive development and increased consciousness.

Of course many now say there can be no God; everything is just material matter. And what do they rely on to reach this conclusion?

Their brains.

According to them this organ - the outcome of an unguided process of random mutations through sexual selection (not selection for truth knowing) can be relied on in this matter.

That takes a heck of a leap of faith...

We are just specks made from carbon, dust and water.

We are pathetic and weak mortal animals like cats, rabbits, dogs, and if we were not conceived by our parents because they had one too many, we may have ended up being the goldfish that you won at funfairs, or the tuna slice you had last week.

Homo habilis made useful tools, Homo sapiens eat washing pods, get obessed with men playing with balls, have TDS and cry over memes and pray to magic men in the clouds.

I love you GM but I literally think we speak a different language. I have no idea what any of this is supposed to mean.
