I was 12. Great summer. 9 weeks of wall to wall sunshine with no break and zero rain. Went to Cornwall with family on holiday. Me and sis found a very unusual reptile. A lizard with stripes. Can't remember where exactly but it was close to a cave. No-one believed us. But I remember it as being the first time there was much talk of drought and 'climate change'. The first time the British public were urged to save water share baths., In 2025 this is one of the driest and warmest Aprils on record. Can't remember the last time we had a day of rainfall. Some are saying we may see record temps in the summer and drought is inevitable. The point being successive governments still haven't done enough to 'adapt' to a changing climate. Water companies are acting like rogue traders, (Starmer failing miserably to sort them out,--hopeless individual) most flats still don't have any kind of air conditioning, and as always we are ill prepared for it all. Be it floods or drought, the UK is always lagging behind the rest of Europe. As with most things. We may well hit 50 degrees this summer, and be perilously short of water.
I have noticed more and more chemtrails in the last 12 months. I remember the Summer of '76, when it rained, neighbours went out in swimsuits and bikinis, enjoying the fresh air and rain.
I remember the steam coming off the pavements. We still didn't share bath water, having a lot of sisters also would not have been hygienic and right, especially since 2 of my sisters started their cycles early.
My father did give me a hose pipe shower over the drain so water could go back to the system. It was refreshing, shall we say. Not forgetting letting the hose run for about 15 minutes or so, to flush out any nasties.
My parents shared a bath now and then the randy buggers.

My parents shared a bath now and then the randy buggers. Can't remember any rain, but I was only 12. 10 minute news bulletins..so we were all blissfully ignorant. People still sent postcards. Banana Splits and Double Deckers on the morning box. Another era. A society not heaped in paranoia and histrionics? Or maybe when young I wasn't aware of such. A truly magnificent decade.
I do remember the thunderclap when the heatwave was over. I was not keen on Double Deckers but it's amazing the child stars still found fame afterwards.
Banana Splits was fantastic.
I have no idea if Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp was aired on UK TV, but I remember reruns on U.S. TV.
I was 9, and I remember this long hot blissful summer. I don't remember any of the negative sides like standpipes at the end of the road, or sharing baths.
I remember and loved the double-deckers and the banana splits. Both had great theme tunes and were very colorful and bizarre. The theme tune to DD was co-written by Melvyn Hayes who also starred in the show, along with Brinsley Forde who went on to become the lead singer of Aswad.
I had to laugh when someone said it's "too hot", it's fantastic weather, can't wait until tomorrow when it's supposed to be a scorcher according to the media, I suspect it will be in the mid-20s.
I wonder if Ed Miliband will go on about climate change when it's your average Spring weather. I do see more and more chemtrails in the skies. Funny, we never saw them during lockdown.
No doubt Labour will blame floods on climate change when it's Labour who have ordered councils to build more on the green belt and floodplains.
I did attend a local meeting and warned the council not to build on the nearby field as it's a flood plain. I even showed them an old map stating this. One of my hobbies is collecting old maps.
I was hushed up, called a NIMBY. Now, every time it rains, the roads on the new builds get flooded, and homeowners can't get out when it happens. I feel sorry for the people, but I tried to warn the council that it would happen, and so did a few local farmers.
Lispy stummerer Ed wants to block the sun and cause floods. He must be the only person in any government hellbent on destruction on both nature and people. UK does not get much sun for solar panels, we are not Florida.
