TOPIC: VE Day 1945
#258691
VE Day 1945 2 Weeks, 3 Days ago
I was 5 months old. My father fought in Europe and was captured by the Germans, winning the OBE as a Major. I was thrown out of my cot when a bomb dropped on London. Don't worry. I'm fine.

I was born just after the war ended. My Dad never fought as he was considered to be in an essential industry so avoided the draft. However he was in Dad's Army.

We lived in the country so avoided the terrible bombings.
I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been .

My future father-in-law also avoided the draft as he was a chemist & scientist but he did improve the method to preserve bodies of deceased soldiers brought back home for burial.

For the 60th Anniversary in May 2005 (during 2 years ongoing US/UK illegal invasions and mass-murders in Iraq & Afghanistan) Britain's WW2 songbird Dame Vera Linnet was filmed overlooking Dover and wearily warbled, "Was it all worth it?"

Dame Vera's re-take, "Buzzards over the brown cliffs of Dover - wake up smell the Bullshit!"

Was Andrew on the balcony? If not, why not? His Mother and Grand Mother were wonderful in the war. So was his Grand Father. Oh I forgot; the media consider him a Vile Pervert although he is actually a blackmail victim.

Andrew and Harry (as far as I'm aware) are the only current members of the royal family - who fought for their country, in wars.

Others - like Anne, for example - just wear medals and uniforms, and have ranks. Though they've never served in the forces, anywhere.
