TOPIC: Seaside towns

Seaside towns 1 Week, 4 Days ago
If you want to go to beaches cheap go abroad. We booked a month in Latvia in August for £600 all exclusive. Staycations are a rip off and most UK seaside towns are just the same like any high street.

On a beach near Cromer now - sunny bliss. Devon in July, with dozens more.

To Latvia - I'd much prefer Venice, Rome or Barcelona. ArBnb is so easy; great value.

My smartphone sends me their best/late cancellation deals. Enjoy!

Venice is too touristy for me many are British, same with Barcelona. The residents of Barcelona hate tourists particularly the British. Who can blame them. Brits do cause trouble, death and destruction.

Now you don't like us abroad!

The same distain as our systems here - for justice, education, sport, politics, policing, governance, arts, entertainment etc.

You also have similar views about the US - and Ireland. Is there anywhere you'd be content in?

Perpetual moaners are boring and troubled.....

A lot of seaside towns are now a refuge for potential immigrants housed in B & Bs, particularly in Kent. I went to Ramsgate and Margate as a child and young person in the early 80s, and it was booming. Going more recently, they are very depressed. There are Lots of closed shops, former attractions are now closed, like Ramsgate model village. Its not surprising that people go abroad, with guaranteed sunshine, much cheaper food, drinks, and accommodation.

Careful Robbie,

Barney will stalk you on here. He seems to respond and post messages when I do it first.

Barney does more stalking than Alex Belfield.

I used to love Torquay as a young man, but it's so unrecognisable these days, but Clevedon seems to bee like how I remember it, quaint and quiet.

Barney, I am content! I love America, and where and when did I say I was negative about - forget politics. I love Luxembourg, Slovenia ( I go almost every Winter, my sister has a second home there) and of course, Slovakia (great bars, people, metal scene)

It's quite ironic, you say I moan a lot, whilst you moan about Latvia.

If I go to Bognor, Cat, you will lead me astray and no doubt invite me to a swingers party whilst you are eating spag bowl.

Perhaps Barney was just helpfully pointing out that there's no NHS there - health insurance is also quite expensive.

I did all my extensive European travels early on and I'm pleased I did.

I still recall visiting the Coliseum when there were about 20 other tourist and heaps of stray cats. Now the queue stretches forever. Love Venice but the crowds would really put me off now.

The last 20 years I just concentrated on Thailand mainly because I have friends who live there but there's everything you could possibly want in the Land of smiles. 5 star hotels at 3 star prices, great friendly people and lots of nightlife and nice beaches.

Do you think the hospitals always saves lives?

I take my chances, we all going to leave the planet one way or another.

Are you having an
existentialism crisis?

No - just utter contentment!

Everything isn't fine though (Jota died; massive UK debt) - so it's for people to make the best of our wonderful country.

To give just one example - the ISA in the UK is an amazing benefit to us all. Invest up to £20k - and pay no tax on profits.

And you can do it every year!

I've lived in 7 countries - but never experienced a city like my current location. Bath, in Somerset.
