TOPIC: John Torode

John Torode 1 Week, 6 Days ago
More woke madness - when you book a person for their eccentric approach to life don't cancel them when they are eccentric. It was why I was always freelance. I only ever had to answer to myself (until Max Clifford, aided and abetted by Surrey Police, stepped in).

Who hasn't used an outrageous racist word in jest, or not worn underwear or complimented someone on their swimming costume?

Makes me wonder if the Wallace claims are nonsense and so they had to punish Torode in case he put the proverbial fly in the souffle.

I have no idea if it's true but Torode said "Chinky", many still say it as slang for a takeaway.

Just let me say - I think both John and Gregg do great jobs on Masterchef and neither should be sacked for minor indiscretions, nothing to do with their TV ability...

I quite agree, they made masterchef what it is today, a massive success. If its true that all he said was "Chinky", then this is ridiculous. Its just a slang term for Chinese or Chinese food. Any minor slip of the tongue can not destroy your career. This phrase can be heard in episodes of Only Fools and Horses and the P word, referring to his corner shop. They will now have to get the most anadine presenters they can find.

It is a ridiculous response I agree.

I see ITV are sticking by Torode - he does a show for them with his wife.

I don't think the BBC has ever recovered from Saville. They are a headless chicken...utter panic responses..

I watched John and Lisa's show this morning on ITV, and there are numerous series on Masterchef available on iplayer. If we can quite happily watch these, then why wouldn't we be able to watch future episodes of Masterchef, including those that have already been filmed.

According to this it was not the one off use of the word "chinky" but multiple use of the 'N' word that did for Torode.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1491532...QKrtlr7pbm1rVFImBHLw

This does put a different emphasid on this for me, as I would suggest no one can use that word today except without huge racist intent...

Apparently most were pleased to see him go, if the article is to be believed, as he was not a pleasant character.

Perhaps the BBC partly used this as an excuse to get rid of him too...

Only rappers and Chris Rock can say the N word. It is what it is.

They won't be glad when they get in new annadine presenters and the show is a flop and doesn't get re-commissioned. Masterchef was failing badly before John and Greg took over. Gary Rhodes was presenting and it wasn't working at all.

Masterchef, was a cure for insomnia. I liked it in the very early days, then it samey and tiresome. Gary Rhodes tried to be viscous like Ramsay, who just puts on an act for the cameras. He is just pussycat in reality but has an ego.

I do suggest people read Kitchen Confidential.
