Colbert says The Late Show will end after 33 years
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end in May 2026 after 33 years on air, the CBS television network announced in a surprise statement on Thursday.
The move "is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night [television]" and "is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters", CBS said....
What a shame this is. From what I've seen of clips on YouTube, I think he's the best political satirist/commentator/comedian of the late night/from behind a desk type in the US. He was apparently recently nominated for an Emmy. He's better than Jon Stewart, I'd say (who seems to screech all the time, I can't watch him any more). Apparently around 200 people work for the show.

Some of us remember David Letterman (my radio show in the US was once called "the best thing since Letterman). And some of us Oldies even remember Johnny Carson. Bet you didn't know who was the very first guest on the PILOT show for Wogan. Me!

Really liked Carson, Wogan and Letterman.
Jon Stewart not so much. Colbert is terrific but I suppose a 30 year run is pretty good. Always best to go out on top.

Jo, like most late night hosts they all have script writer's, even Greg Gutfield. I am not a huge Gutfield fan but I did enjoy his travel book lengthy titled. Lessons from the Land of Pork Scratchings: A Miserable Yank Discovers the Secret of Happiness in Britain.
Most of his books have night aged well. I ordered his latest book. About how his show won the ratings war.
I guess his competitors were too woke. Go Woke Go Broke.

That's interesting, JK. I had no idea you were the first guest on the Wogan pilot. It was a great programme. Terry Wogan seemed likeable and a good interviewer.
I do realise these performers have writers, GM. I expect that's what some of the 200 or so other people on the show were doing.

They all have the same writer's, there was comparison video on YouTube of these late night hosts using the same gags on the same week.

I think Trump has made a huge tactical mistake trying to sue Murdoch and his empire.
It will take years but it's already backfiring with Trump's claim he "doesn't draw" as dozens of his signed drawings are now appearing on Twitter...most apparently for charity and all seem to be of the NYC skyline but unerringly similar in artist style to the claimed Epstein birthday card drawing.
The MAGA crowd are getting very twitchy about all this Epstein stuff and they want scalps.
God only knows what will happen when the coming recession really kicks in.
Trump claims petrol is under $2 a gallon but not one media outet can find gas for under $3.90/$4 but he's convinced many MAGA that it's Democrat politicians keeping gas prices high in their are.
I still reckon Trump will gone for the second half of his presidency. The Republican establishment will be just as ruthless as Trump is if they see his ratings fall even further.
