This is bordering on the ludicrous.

When a youth I recall being groped endlessly when pushing through crowded pubs.

I always noticed because I'm not the most tactile person and a tad stand offish (as my wife claimed). Our lovely Italian flatmate always said similar about the British.

When I met Rolf Harris briefly he held my hand long after shaking it and also my elbow as he listened very politely to my natter.

After so many claims against him I was saddened as he was obviously a very hands on type person..giving hugs and things.

I used to even slightly tense up when my own mother hugged me as she was very tactile.

Remember the British comedian Rod Hull and Emu who became a big star in Australia?

I recall on a visit watching a Michael Parkinson show when he had one Down Under and Rod was a guest,

Emu grabbed and groped Parkinson all over.
Parkison was absolutely furious.

Poor Rod would have been on all sorts of charges these days.

Rod Hull's Emu probably "groped/grabbed/molested" half the entertainment world in the 70's and 80's. There has never been any hint of impropriety from the widely loved Rod Hull as far as I know.

But this does raise an intriguing question I suppose. For any act who uses a puppet like Orville or Emu or such like, if there was a person who did have malign intent to set out to deliberately do something, let's say grabbing the breasts of a woman for gratification while having a puppet up the arm, would having that puppet on the arm actually constitute any kind of defence against any complainant on such breast touching, or not, within an act?

The question for Sue Perkins is why is she bringing this up now, for what purpose?

On closer inspection this is an absolute scam of a story in that rag.

They've made something up out of next to nothing, other than a few throwaway words in a podcast, not even by Sue Perkins at all but her sidekick Mel.

Although the comments may have been intended as somewhat lighthearted, there is clearly a casual and slightly passive aggressive smear going on within them on that podcast that the Sun then picks up and makes into its non story.

There is even a casual smear about Matthew Corbett and Sooty for God's sake, as well as Roger de Courcey;

The real villains of this seem to be Rod McPhee and Peter Robertson who put their names to this Sun article which is pure mud raking. It took two men to write that "exclusive"? How was it an exclsive, it had already gone out on podcast for anyone to listen to.

This really is the definition of the gutter press.

Touching someone through a puppet would be like touching someone with boxing gloves on, or at least very thick gloves. You wouldn't feel anything. Sue Perkin's probably said it for a laugh and now it's been taken as a serious accusation.

He grabbed Parky's arm and neck, not his genitals. He was just been very annoying, nothing sexual going on. Rod Hull wasn't a ventriloquist, his puppet was silent, his act was completely based on the puppet grabbing people and pecking people.
