Is this another example of sloppy police investigation? 16 Years, 2 Months ago
Not sure how widely publicised this case is, but it's been reported here on local TV and radio for the last two years. 19yr old Jenny Nicholl disappeared from home in June 2005. Her mother received text messages from Jenny's phone afterwards, but the police decided that her married boyfriend had murdered her and used Jenny's mobile to make it seem like she was still alive. There is no actual evidence of her having been killed; no body, no blood, etc. The man is currently on trial for her murder, but now four witnesses have come forward to say that they saw Jenny at different times and locations after the date she's supposed to have been murdered. One saw her in 2005 and reported the sighting to the police, but she wasn't interviewed until last month.

It's looking increasingly as if the police have been working towards a getting conviction rather than getting to the truth. Reminds me a little of a murder case in Australia where the "victim" turned up at the trial. Her mother had also said that she would "never leave without telling us", but she had.
