The 42 DAY without charge rule basically will open up the chances of Dictatorship within the UK.

It is a "nazi" style policy and is not necessary at all. No evidence can be produced to support it at all.

I am very concerned that Gordon Brown seems to be the most unprincipled PM the UK has had in its history.

The revelations from the stream of books coming out about him - show him to be devious - lying - cheating - and quite capable of disloyalty.

Therefore any LABOUR MP reading this has a duty to FREEDOM to vote against the 42 Days bill.

It makes the 10p tax row pale into insignificance ( and that showed BROWN's view of the poor - as people to tax )

Politics is a messy business and many people steer clear these days. The problem is that whilst everyone sticks their head in the sand our rights and freedoms are being lost.

42 days will be the beginning of the end of the UK as a free country. It is an outrageous attempt to get rid of the justice system that has served this country for many centuries and in the face of much bigger threats than some Extreme Islamics based in a cave in Northern Pakistan.

Gordon Brown is a weak leader who is using every trick in the book to gain and then stay in power. This bill must not slip through because it threatens our way of life.

This is not a Party Political issue - it is about the very freedom that we all aspire to have in our lives.

That happened when detention without trial was raised from 24 hours to 7 days (then 14, now 28, and currently pushing for 42 - but really wanting 90).

By comparison, the USA "limit" is still 2 days.

As with in Germany in the 1930s we are told that these laws will only apply to a certain type of person, e.g. in the UK today it is terrorists; in 1930s Germany it was Jews. But once the rule is in place, it can be applied to more people. The Germans didn't stop at the Jews; they later included Gypsies and Jehovas Witnesses, and then anyone who didn't fit the desired ethnic profile.

People sneer at the Human Rights Act because it 'protects criminals'. It actually protects us all from abuse by those in power. If we abolish it, we open many dangerous doors. Change the law for one group and we change it for everyone. Once the flood gates are open, we'll all be drowned regardless of colour or creed.

I agree that this 42 day rule must be opposed ... along with many other idiot proposals by the government.

You can see a perfect example of how this can be mis-used in the Dr Haneef case in Australia-a distant cousin of the man who drove the car into the Glasgow airport gates.

The police had demanded and got a 7 day holding period but could suspend questioning so really the man could be held indefinitely. They claimed his sim card was found at the scene-yet a Scotland Yard detective flew in, in a blaze of publicity and left within days. They never revealed what she said...that the card had been found a 100 miles away and Dr Haneef had just given it to his cousin as it had credit left on it.

Then he was dragged into court and charged with helping terrorists...the police and prosecutor actually fabricated evidenced and lied to the court. The magistrate delayed for a day and called them back and dismissed the case. Haneeef was free but the Immigration Minister then tried to serve a deportation order on him.

Although the new government is holding an enquiry into the shocking abuse and downright lies told by Federal police chiefs and detectives, prosecutors and such-the police still claim they are investigating Haneef. It isn't washing and heads will roll.

But the cost of the whole charade to date-54 million dollars.

Give them these Kafka style powers and they will abuse them.

Rebel Labour MPs have tabled a Commons amendment in a bid to thwart government plans to extend pre-charge detention for terror suspects to 42 days.

Among those to sign it are several backbenchers who previously backed a 90-day limit, suggesting the prime minister could lose a vote next month.

It comes amid reports Prime Minister Gordon Brown is preparing a compromise with MPs to avoid a damaging defeat.
