Fruitgum advert 16 Years, 1 Month ago
I was browsing on Youtube and watched this advert for Fruitgum it was banned because kids were begging to their mums and was changed don't forget the Fruitgums Chum.

I think JK should cover this song for another collection.

Think the original came from a time when most women were at home all day and therefore were responsible for the weekly shop. It would have been changed to reflect the times. As we know mum does not exclusively do the shopping anymore, its a whole family leisure activity.

I prefer jelly babies myself. Can't remember the last time I bought a quarter pound of sweets. In the days when the shop assistant had to climb an extended ladder to get the jar of sherbert lemons down.

Shoplifters paradise in those days.

..as a footnote they should never have changed the name of Opal Fruits to Starburst. Opal Fruits were always 'made to make your mouth water!'

I remember when I was a kid and my nan took me to the post office and give me a £1 for to spend on 1p sweets. I don't know who the actor is.

My dad said that kids use to say they going to get some Spanish it was nick name for a sweet.

What is everyone favorite sweet on this board ?

The actor was called Denis Gilmore. He appeared in several movies and TV shows, including 'Crossroads', 'Worzel Gummidge' and Disney's "Three lives of Thomasina".

I never like fruit gums, they tend to get stuck to your teeth. I remember getting lots of chews for 1/2p each in the mid 70's. Black Jacks, Fruit salads and many others that I've forgetten.

Because you worked for the BBC doesn't mean you know everything because you are definitely wrong! As said by others here the boy in the Fruit Gums advert was a ginger headed lad called, Denis Gilmore. "Don't forget the Fruit Gums Mum, I Just Love Those Fruit Gums, Mum", etc.

Is it Bulloch?

There was few fruit gum boys.
I think Jeremy Bulloch is about five years older than Denis Thingy, so I imagine he would have been in the earlier one, whichever that was?

Wasn't Jeremy a Milky Bar Kid? How odd that Andrew started this thread 8 years ago - since when over 35,000 people have read it, as the Internet has grown. How the world has changed. As have we. Fruit Pastilles? No way now I'm diabetic!

It is fascinating.
Looking at the comments under the video,it seems that it could also be someone called John Evans.
Spartacus will claim it any minute now!

Still not sure whether it was Jeremy! I remember him from Summer Holiday.

Amazing thread going back 11 years with over 300,000 views in that time!

How social media has grown. But we were there very early (mid 90s).
