TOPIC: God Save The Queen

God Save The Queen 15 Years, 4 Months ago
Watching this elderly lady in her 80s braving the cold to boost the spirits of employees in the City of London I felt honoured that the Royal Family work so hard at jobs they never asked for; good luck to them.

I agree.

Some will always argue that the Royals don't do any real work, ignorant of the long hours and huge responsibilities that come with the job. Some will be working in industry that would not exist in this country if not for The Queen's diplomatic influence .. etc. etc.

God (who JK doesn't believe in but I do) bless her.

I respect the Queen - even if she is a lizard. She owns a large percentage of the World I might add. Strange that.......

None of the Royals have ever done a days work in their life. Why do you think they all look so good for their age? Phillip has been losing his hair for years and the Queen looks about 60. Strange that.

Total rubbish!
The Queen trained and worked as an engineer during WW2.
Prince Philip served as an officer in naval battle zones during WW2.
All the Royals have done military service, mainly via Sandhurst which gives no special treatment and has one of the toughest training/work regimes of any establishment.

How do you define work? I had a job where I mainly signed papers and had discussions over cups of tea while those below me did the leg work, but I was still classed as working. Each member of the Royal Family do far more than that, and they are on duty 24/7. No days off unless for severe illness. If I failed to meet the standard then a few quid might have been lost for the firm. If The Queen fails to meet the standard then Britain can lose international allies, trade and reputation. A small island such as ours cannot have such high status in the world on the back of politicians alone, especially as they might be replaced part way through important negotiations. The fact that our Head of State is constant, and has lifelong training and dedication, is what gives us our unique position.

You are perfectly entitled to not support the Royal Family, but you cannot realistically claim they have never done a days work. If they haven't then none of us have.

Anti Royalist here. They are merely unelected officials.

The Monarchy costs us £40m per year. This is a institution that has £7 billion in assets (mostly land) that it has managed to plunder from us since 1066. This surely dwarfs the amount MPs have stolen from us.

Prince Andrew spent £30,000 of taxpayers money on helicopter flights around golf courses on a recent holiday.

Prince Charles is mad... whittling on about subjects he knows nothing about..architecture, global warming, and herbal teas...

his Duchy Originals company was recently censured by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for advertising that its herbal medicines range could effectively treat common colds and other ailments. The ASA found that Duchy Originals breached the code in four areas including “substantiation, truthfulness and medicinal claims”.

Prince Edward is mad.

Prince Harry is mad.

Prince Phillip is mad.

Perhaps William might be the only saving grace of a family that I believe no longer justify being a glorified banner for tourism.

Have me taken to the Tower if you will...but please make it after 5...

Why should the country go to the expense of keeping you in the tower, FC? The sword of state is much cheaper.

Philip was on the same boats with my grandfather. My grandfather went into a violent rage whenever Philip and his duty in the Navy was mentioned. He said Philip always hid in his hammock or the toilets whenever there was action, Philip was disliked by everyone. My grandfather hardly ever spoke his duties in WW2 nor did he display his war medals, which was a shame.

The Royals have done military work, where they are very well protected and never on the front line. They left in their 20s and then have flunkies doing everything for them. Charles even has flunkies putting tooth paste on his toothpaste.

My dad refused his (considerable) medals. He wouldn't accept a prize for just doing "what anybody decent would do".

I love it when conversations last for decades, with possibly dead people.
