Horrible, but I loathe Will Self even more. To paraphrase Homer Simpson: 'Novelists: is there anything they don't know?' This bloke thinks reading the odd article about anything makes him PhD standard. It's like watching a 19 year old who's just discovered scepticism. Last time his remorselessly negative riffing routine was on global warming: 'Sorry, people, but we're toast'. This time it was on party politics: 'They're all rubbish'. Yes, thanks for that, Will. Are all ex-heroin addicts so insightful, or have you just had an extra glucose shot? To sit near someone like Shirley Williams and 'explain' Cabinet Government to her...well, the man has a nerve. Yet twenty-something year old researchers, who don't seem to know much about politics, seem to think the man's a daring genius.

I thought she was terrible. Her attempts to drag Sarah's Law into the Venables case was both invidious and opportunistic. No relevance whatsoever. Will Self was, as usual, spot on.

I can't stand either of them, but they're both good representatives of dumbed down nulabor britain where even the 'intellectuals' are second rate and fake.

I remember when Carol Vorderman became an overnight expert on internet paedophiles and justified her paranoia by squealing "I AM A MOTHER!". I've had serious doubts about her sanity ever since.

And the Tories see Vorderman as someone who can speak for them on education. This the woman who managed a THIRD at Cambridge! Ducks have been known to waddle in from the Cam and get a third. The thick ones, that is.
