TOPIC: Ed Milliband on Andrew Marr

Ed Milliband on Andrew Marr 15 Years, 2 Months ago
Ed Milliband finally recognises that mass immigration has an effect on the individual, making it harder for them to find work and depressing their wages. If he recognised this a few weeks ago he may now have a proper job.

I think Labour needed to do more than focus on immigration problems in order to win the election. They were a crap government who only stayed in power because of Tony Blair's adoring fans.

Ed is certainly more personable than his equally pragmatic android brother David (who now seems to think a bum fluff moustache will crank up his charisma). But I can't see any of the candidates so far capturing the imagination. What a poor, poor, bunch they are.

Most immigrants do the jobs that British people (I almost said "workers", lol !) won't do !

If we stop European migration here then UK citizens who live abroad will have to come home - you can't have it BOTH ways !

Where will the 2.5 million Brits, currently living in Spain, go to ?

During the election B-Liar only campaigned on behalf of one MP - Jacqui Smith - and she was promptly booted out !

He's obviously very influential !!!!!!!!!!!

This is a complete falacy. Lots of indians work in IT on good salaries. Also a lot of the work is outsourced to India, so they are hitting us on two fronts. I can apply for jobs and not even get a response because there is so much competition and yet there is said to be a shortage of skills. Don't believe the politically correct press who show one example of a family living in a council house on benefits and say this is how all the unemployed behave.

I don't understand the logic behind your second point. If immigration is controlled then we will be less overcrowded and there will be less unemployment.Uk citizens abroad won't have to come home at all.

I think Tony Blair's influence began to fade once his hair turned grey. He now looks old and worn out. Though he was campaigning in his old North East constituency so he can't have only been supporting Jacqui Smith.

So are you saying that it's ok for millions of UK citizens to live in other people's countries, it's just that we don't want foreigners here?

No, I'm saying that there are too many, uk citizens don't flood into other countries in the way that indians do in the uk. People should be allowed to come here if a job cannot be filled by a person in this country, which is a system that is carried out in the USA.

As I said - you can't have it BOTH ways. Free movement applies in BOTH directions ... if we have the right to live in other European countries then those citizens also have the right to live here.

I would be quite happy if emigration to European countries was restricted. Freedom of movement creates an inbalance in society. The health service in Somalia is in a terrible state because the uk has taken all of its best doctors. Do you think this is a good thing. All 3 major political parties now agree there should be some kind of restrictions on immigration of non-eu citizens.

I suspect it is because the UK can offer the Somalis training, education and then employment (not because we have "taken" them) ! LOL !

so,Robbie, do you take back your earlier statement that UK citizens don't 'flood' into other countries in the way that Indians do to the UK?

If not, stats please.

I think this is a very complex subject that needs deep thought.

There must be at least 10 million Brits who have emigrated to all parts of the world for various reasons.

In countries like Thailand they are openly encouraged as they bring wealth (while dodging bullets at the moment)

This is one subject that needs biparisan support so it doesn't descend into racism.

I know I'm mainly referring to non-eu immigration. There is nothing that can be done about eu immigration without getting about of the EU.

There is enough people in this country to staff the NHS already. Knowone is saying send everyone back, I just feel that like the majority of people in this country (including immigrants and the 3 main parties) there should be more restrictions on immigration.
There are 60 million people in this small island, about the same as France, which is much larger. This figure has grown rapidly over the last 10 years, either people are having more babies (which isn't the case) or immigration is growing too much. I don't want to repeat the fact about extra demands on Education and the health service.
