Next to where I live the Police built a brand new "PCSO" Police Station out of which 10 PCSOs work. Must have cost half a million to build and a million a year to run.

The PCSOs have made no difference to the area. They walk around at times when no-one is around ( about 8a.m in the morning rather than 11p.m on a Saturday ! ) and generally do nothing at all.

This MILLION a year could be saved by basically getting rid of them. No one would notice.

The PCSOs were the biggest single mistake in Policing that NEW LABOUR made - and guess who invented them ? Yes that great Cop - IAN BLAIR !! Enough said.

It does seem the public mood and the media is for slashing the spending on the POLICE and the best place to start is with the failed PCSO experiment. Then freezing pay for 5 years. Closing Hendon Training College and selling it off for housing. Stopping the database culture that permeates the Police and cutting the surveillance of ordinary people who could be "terrorists" or "Paedos" which is based on media hysteria rather than fact.

At least £3 billion could be saved each year if this was followed and would mean that Education and the NHS could see no reduction in budget - just better targeted spending
